Meet the Staff

We at Smile Design Associates are dedicated to helping our patients be the best they can be. Your dental health is our primary focus while providing excellent service in a comfortable, trusting environment. We are a group of caring professionals that have been working together for many years, making us a great team to provide the best care for your family.

The practice was founded by Dr Mackey in 1996. At that time Sharon was Dr Mackey’s assistant and office manager in a 650 sq ft space in Chester Springs where she provided patient care as well as administrative duties. Our practice had expanded greatly since then, all thanks to our loyal patients who have recommended us to family and friends. Our dental hygienist Lorraine and dental assistant Sarah joined the practice in 2000. As the practice grew, Amy joined first as a hygiene assistant then a full time hygienist after receiving her degree in dental hygiene in 2003. By then the practice had grown so much we needed to move again, this time to our current 3000sq ft facility in the Lionville Professional Center. In 2006 Renae joined us as a second dental assistant and in 2008 Dr Matthew Rudolph, a board certified Periodontist, began to offer periodontal services that were previously not available at Smile Design.

As more and more people shared their experiences with friends, neighbors and coworkers both Renae and Sarah wanted to elevate their level of care. Both women went back to school part time and apprenticed under Dr Mackey to become Expanded Function Dental Assistants, licensed in Pennsylvania, to help the doctors perform more specialized functions chairside. In addition to assisting, Renae also works with Sharon in the front office to aid patients with scheduling, insurance and much more.

All of our team members are certified by the American Heart Association in CPR basic life support and trained to use the AED Defibrillator machine in our office. The assistants and hygienists as well as the doctors are retrained annually in infection control techniques and radiology. In addition, they regularly advance their skills through continuing education classes in various areas of dentistry. Dr Mackey attends the American Dental Association Annual Session every year as well as numerous hours of continuing education courses annually. Both Dr Mackey and Dr Rudolph are members of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, and Chester Delaware County Dental Society.
